AKUATRO

Applications

Akuatro, like any other electric power generator, has all the applications typical of this type of energy; however, it has three applications in which it is especially interesting. With this data, the table on the right has been created for 10 Akuatro units on the grid:

Greater stability in the conditions that allow for the production of basic grid energy, without the fluctuations due to wind patterns or the inability to produce energy at night that are common with wind and solar energy, respectively.

The EU’s AI Continent Action Plan aims to triple data centers and build AI gigafactories with high energy and water demands. Each could consume up to 1.4 million liters of water per day. Locating them near the sea allows the use of seawater or desalinated water for cooling, reducing environmental impact. Akuatro emerges as an efficient and sustainable energy solution, capable of powering both data centers and desalination plants. It also enables synergies with renewables and enhances water and energy resilience.

Approximately 40% of the world's population lives within 100 kilometers of the coast. This trend continues to increase, as coastal areas often offer economic and employment opportunities, in addition to being attractive for urban living. According to Red Eléctrica de España, the average Spanish household consumption is 9 kWh per day.

The global lack of safe drinking water is a critical problem affecting millions of people. Climate change, population growth, and poor water resource management have exacerbated water scarcity in many regions. This situation not only puts the health and well-being of communities at risk but also impacts agriculture, industry, and natural ecosystems.

A modern desalination plant uses between 2.9 and 3 kWh per cubic meter of water. The average daily water consumption per capita in Spain is 133 liters, according to various studies by the National Institute of Statistics.

AKUATRO AND

AI DATA CENTERS

The AI Continent Action Plan, presented by the Vice President of the European Commission and Commissioner for Technological Sovereignty, Security and Democracy, Henna Virkkunen, includes tripling data center infrastructure in seven years and developing what have been dubbed AI gigafactories: computing centers with at least 100,000 next-generation chips each. The EU intends to mobilize €20 billion for this purpose.

With a conservative power estimate of 700 W per chip, one of the aforementioned AI gigafactories will reach 70 MW of power and a daily consumption of 1,680 MW.
The IEA (International Energy Agency) indicates that a 100 MW data center can use up to 2 million liters of water per day for cooling; in the case of these AI gigafactories, this represents 1.4 million liters of water per day each.

In view of all the above, the advantages of locating these centers near the sea are obvious, where Akuatro would be the electricity supply solution for both the data center itself and the desalination plant, if the facility is equipped:

Sustainable development in isolated areas

  • An excellent option for electrifying islands or coastal towns where other sources are difficult to implement.
  • It is ideal for remote villages or small islands, where extending the traditional power grid would be very expensive.
  • It leverages local resources, protects the environment, improves quality of life, reduces energy poverty, and strengthens the local economy.

Hybrid projects

  • Combined with solar or wind power for a more complete and balanced energy supply.
  • They ensure the continuous supply of energy.
  • They reduce the required size of each individual source (more efficiency).

Integration into electrical networks

  • They can be incorporated into the national electricity grid as base energy.
  • Hydrokinetic turbine modules are installed near communities or industries.
  • The energy produced is injected directly into local grids or microgrids, reducing dependence on fossil fuels.

Generation of clean and constant electricity

  • Hydrokinetic energy is combined with solar or wind energy to form more stable hybrid systems.
  • They are predictable and stable sources (especially tidal power), which is an advantage over other renewable energies such as solar or wind.
  • Ideal for supplying remote coastal or river communities.
