THE AKUATRO SYSTEM
Akuatro is an ingenious system of four configurable electric hydrogenerators (series, parallel and mixed) with a vertical axis and pivoting blades, self-orienting and floating that harnesses the energy of marine and river currents.
The most important advantages that Akuatro offers that improve project profitability are:
- 24-hour power production, as it is not affected by changes in the direction and direction of water currents, and the possibility of connecting the four independent electric generators in series, parallel, or mixed, provides adaptability to changes in water current speed.
- Use of common materials in shipbuilding (marine steel and wood).
- Installation of electrical market equipment located on the surface within the floating and watertight zone.
- Making standard electrical connections when on the surface within the floating and watertight zone.
- Ease of electrical maintenance thanks to the two previous points.
Akuatro offers several advantages over other devices that also harness water currents to generate electricity. The main ones are:
- Independence from the direction and direction of water currents. This means that a greater number of sites meet the initial requirement of an average water current velocity of 1 m/s.
- The existence of four independent generators allows them to be connected in series, parallel, or mixed, allowing Akuatro to adapt to changes in water velocity, producing energy at the appropriate voltage.
- At Akuatro, both the electrical equipment (transformation center, low-voltage panels, power electronics, and generators) and its connections are installed above ground, specifically on the watertight floating structure, allowing both to be conventional. This feature also facilitates maintenance work.
- It does not require a rigid support structure, thus reducing production and installation costs and reducing environmental and visual impact.
Renewable energies rarely compete with each other; each location has its own characteristics that make it more or less suitable for each technology, including hours of sunlight, wind patterns, or proximity to waterways, among others.
The production of electrical energy from both ocean and river currents is a resource of enormous proportions that is underutilized. This resource also offers several advantages over other renewable energies, such as:
- Greater stability in the conditions allows for the production of basic grid energy, without the fluctuations due to wind patterns or the inability to produce energy at night that are common with wind and solar energy, respectively. Furthermore, previous production estimates are more in line with reality.
- A lower environmental and visual impact, as it doesn’t compete with natural environments or farmland. The visual impact compared to the large overhead generators recently being installed along the coast is drastically lower.
